AI can tell when people are speaking #31857

Description

It's REALLY annoying when the only thing you can hear is radio. You can literally hear the noises after they finish typing except the chat bubbles and its saddening

You can see typing bubbles and hear the little speaking noise after they type despite not seeing the text.

This is how AI worked in 13, intended behavior

mirrorcult commented 2 months ago

yeah this is intentional

the noise is an issue but i think seeing the speech bubble is fine, it would make sense to see someone speaking right?? also it would be nice to have holopads for the ai to connect to and hear and talk to crew without using the radio.

Honestly I think this is fine. You could already hear doors being opened and other sounds in 13, and you could the little typing bubble popping up from players too showing that they're typing. You just couldn't actually see or hear what they were saying.

eh I'm just really scared of the ai listening in on a evil syndicate meeting and then relaying all that info to sec

They wouldn't be able to tell anyway. It's just the little typing icon next to someone's head and the grunt of someone talking. Not the actual speech bubble on what they said (I phrased that poorly) Untitled3

you can also hear emotes like laughter

Ilya246 commented 2 months ago

what if we do it as a compromise where the AI can read lips if you bring the AI view to be very close to a person

CroilBird commented 2 months ago

Now I am wondering about emotes. It makes sense to me that the AI can see people shrug, laugh and cry. I have little experience with SS13 AI but part of the fun in playing it in SS14 is that you have to figure out what the crew is up to using body language alone.

To really sell this point, the mime is uniquely disadvantaged by this and I think that's funny.

if i remember correctly chatcode is so shit you can't have something listen on emotes but not the standard chat/whispers, all 3 are in one package this is painful in rmc14 cause xenos can't hear marines so they also can't see emotes (so no xeno-marine RP*)

(*without exploits )
