I don't play LRP so I can't speak from that specific side. From my experience, in an MRP environment 99% of the time players will not recognize you. And even if they do, they will likely not take in-character action based on them knowing OOC that it is you. I will also note that for both the Ninja and Lone Operator, the only distinguishing features visible from the cover of your hardsuit is spider appendages, lizard tails, and hair.
Obviously from a WizDen rules standpoint, NLR enforces the fact that you're not supposed to reference your character. Like you said, this doesn't stop other people from recognizing characters.
Unfortunately, I have seen players intentionally chameleon themselves and use an Agent ID plus a voice mask to pass off their original character's identity in a nukeops round, in hopes that they would fool other characters into thinking they're OK. It does indeed happen. Not trying to downplay the issue here, this is something that is really iffy, and a lot of questions similar to it have been asked in the admin questions channel on the discord.
At the end of the day it might be good to randomize the identity of major antags like these. It may help cut down on potential metagaming/metafriending. I will note that as I discussed in your design doc, some (not speaking for everyone lol) players like to play gimmicks around their ghost role antag, establishing a second identity.
Description
I have seen multiple times where the ninja played their character, but instead of being Nanotrasen aligned, they're Spider Clan, which makes sense, but it opens up a very confusing scenario, granted rare, where someone who died IC, in round, manages to get the role, and now... they're playing as their character, who died, as a ninja.
Now, this wouldn't be much of an issue, if it wasn't for the ghost role rules specifically stating that "You are absolutely not allowed to remember, say, the name, appearance, etc. of your previous character.
Which is an issue, because, in every way but name (Probably not DNA or Prints), you ARE the previous character if you died on that shift.
Related to that, it also means that players who you have a lot of interaction with in rounds would recognize you from your details, like your hair, the color or design of your tail, or maybe the color and design of your wings. Which, again, wouldn't be much of an issue, but this indirectly encourages people to regard you as that very same character, which in turn, makes it harder to disconnect the ninja from 'The guy I see on station every other shift'
This also means that from the crew's perspective, if you see someone who is obviously that guy you know, but a ninja, you're GOING to treat that differently than any other ninja. Instead of calling out "NINJA ATMOS" They might instead go "Urist?" because that just makes sense in character. Which also means, yes, now the ninja was outed as the character they normally play, despite being technically an entirely different character.
Again, this isn't really an issue, but it becomes an issue when you consider that any other ninja would likely be outted just because they don't recognize them.
This might end up for debate entirely, but I think I made it pretty clear what the issue is.
