This happens when clicking on a login link that you receive in email, while trying to sign up.
To duplicate:
1) Log in as user1
2) Click the sign up button and create user2
3) Check your email and click on the link
4) You will see that you are logged in
5) You will see a notification bubble that says "Another user is logged in (user1), so you should log out and log back in as the new user.
I have never seen a site handle things this way, but the dev who worked with this site had to handle the cookie somehow, so this was the choice. Either:
this is not duplicable
user1 should be forced to log out before they sign up, or
user1 should be auto-logged out by the password url
