Misc code fixes #82

This PR fixes various items:

Comparisons to constant literals using is
Comparisons to None using !=
Missing imports
String substitution errors
Undefined paths
del statements

These are all fixes, not code style changes. If we want to address the code style, an automated tool like black will likely be needed given the large number of changes needed.
