Several presentations on the pipeline structure have been presented at ADASS and SciPy meetings over the past several years. The most extensive paper resulting from these is the one from SciPy 2015 and the pdf is attached. All of these presentations covered similar basic topics, including:
- Overall introduction and comparison to, e.g., HST instrument pipelines
- stpipe command line execution python execution
- Logging
- Steps and Pipelines
- Data Models ** schemas, serialization to FITS and ASDF
Additional separate papers have been presented on the topics of CRDS and Associations, which I believe should be included in this pipeline paper.

It's time to publicly document the jwst calibration pipeline. INS is writing a journal article describing the actual calibration algorithms used for all observing modes. SCSB needs to write a companion paper describing the architecture and design of the pipeline software. Specific sections of this paper will be delegated to appropriate developers.
