What was the reason for removing Be Quiet! from AMO? I liked this add-on a lot. :disappointed:

sparhami commented 9 years ago

The primary reasons are that it doesn't work with electrolysis which is coming out soon and the end of XUL-based add-ons in ~12 months. I attempted to make the necessary changes about 6-8 months ago but didn't make any progress after spending a lot of time on it. Given the relatively short remaining life, time investment required and limited number of users, it doesn't make sense to me to try to maintain it.

Since Flash is on it's way out, perhaps some of the functionality can be re-implemented using only the video/audio element support in a much simpler way using the new extensions APIs. I don't think there is anyway (or ever will be a way) to support some features such as:

I'm not sure exactly what are the limitations of the proposed new APIs, so there may be other things I didn't mention that won't be possible.

Maybe you can make feature requests against Firefox for the functionality that you would need to implement Be Quiet using WebExtensions? Mozilla claims to want to work with add-on developers add missing functionality to WebExtensions.

I don't install Flash on my own computers, so I won't be disappointed if it can't be supported.

In meantime I use PLAY/PAUSE addon that is very robust but of course have less functionnality than BeQuiet!. One advantage is that it is very easy to add "website" in the addon I've done some and the dev added it quickly in the realese version. :musical_note:
