Since members of this local spark provide similar, or the exact same, services to clients, there needs to be a member policy stating:
1) Since we all learn tools and techniques from each other in each meetup and online, we promise not to poach another freelancer’s clientele.
[Example: DO NOT] Member A publicly demonstrates a step-by-step guide for search engine optimization in Joomla! and how it helped a local client. Member B, who specializes in search engine optimization, watches the public demonstration, and notices a way to do things better. Member B then contacts Member A’s client directly and offers the same services, focusing on how he/she is better than Member A. [Example: DO] Member A publicly demonstrates a step-by-step guide for search engine optimization in Joomla! and how it helped a local client. Member B, who specializes in search engine optimization, watches the public demonstration, and notices a way to do things better. Member B approaches Member A and discusses how their search engine optimization process can be improved. Or, Member B stays comfortable with their own process and doesn’t reach out to poach Member A’s client.
2) If there is a conflict of interest among freelancers, wherein two freelancers can provide similar services to the client they share, a joint contract or similar collaborative measure is recommended—permitting language in members’ individual contracts.
Member A and B realize they can collaborate on this client’s project. So, Member A and B work on a partnering or incorporation document.
