Three blinks from openlog board, garbage from terminal #190

Trying any of the example sketches here, I'm only able to get the logger board's LED to blink three times (repeating three-blink cycles forever) and to get garbage sent back to the serial monitor. I haven't seen any new files created on the card.

Any ideas? I've connected the pins as indicated in the sketches to my Uno R3.

For folks in the future, a couple of things that I didn't see documented that helped me get it working:

the three blinks behavior means that it doesn't recognize the SD card.
big picture: the logger just logs everything sent to the serial port (ie: everything that you Serial.print/write). No special commands needed.
