Currently, the converter creates a full file, because it uses a --template which implies the --standalone option. However sometimes users might need to just convert to a small part that will be embedded in a larger file later.
Right now I am entertaining having two defaults files, having the following usage and effects:
-d optex
This shall be the non-standalone version, meaning it will only output what the writer outputs and won't use a template.
-d optex-standalone
This shall be the standalone file version, meaning you can just use optex <file> to create a pdf file. It shall use the template file and thus output "header" information, such as \fontfam[lm] etc.
