We don’t support Laravel 5.4 anymore, please upgrade to 5.6
Try upgrading the boilerplate to the latest version, which supports 5.6
If you cannot upgrade to Laravel 5.6 and must use Laravel 5.4, you could try using the 1.x version. Realize that there is no support for this version and many fixes and improvements only exist in new releases. Use at your own risk!
I am currently using laravel5-boilerplate by rappasoft (https://github.com/rappasoft/laravel-5-boilerplate) PHP: 7.2.5 Laravel: 5.4.32
