I haven’t - I found the players to be a bit hit and miss though - I had issues with an ESP32 that did this. Can you try it with ffmpeg and see if it provides any issues?
Does it happen after a certain time period or is it just random ?
It happens every time I use it, fairly regularly I'll try and do some timing - I wonder if it's when it gets to the end of the transport stream.
I've only tried VLC and MPV so far, I'll try ffmpeg.
It worked better - though I realised loads of spots in my house don't have good wifi - when I tested with ffplay, I only got one blip in a few minutes play.
I should probably test with wired connectivity and see what happens.
Any idea how this behaves with spotty connectivity ?
So this is the best I've managed to figure out. I found there are 3 types of streamer:
When you have the last type, any network latency seems to have a really bad time dealing with the next segment - if it's quick (really quick) you won't notice, but if it's a >50ms then you have a break...
Personally, I'm using owntone to play the stream and then using airplay to throw it around. It seems to be the most stable for me. This has the benefit of all the streams are in sync around the house. These days I buy Apple Airport Express 2's from eBay for about 25 quid. Beauty of the AE2's is they have a very short boot time, and never go wrong. Before that, I was using the awesome shairport sync to do this with raspberry pi's.
This is a really good analysis.
I have owntone - but only to be compatible with Apple devices using the DAAP server, but I'm mostly use Linux, the iPhone and Mac that runs MacOS in the house aren't mine - still, I may give this is a try.
I had no idea airport express had an audio output, syncing the audio is very Apple.
Syncronized playback is a whole area I hadn't got to, think I'll hold off until I'm happy with how other bits are working.
Not sure if you’ve seen this, might be of interest https://owntone.github.io/owntone-server/library/#pipes-for-eg-multiroom-with-shairport-sync
I get little gaps in playback, do you experience this ?
I'm running in Docker so should probably try and run natively.
