Is a close match to Entessa Public License v1.0

karsten-klein commented 2 months ago

ScanCode matches it this as mx4j. It seems that there is an underlying template (maybe the Apache 1.0 / 1.1 or rather BSD 5-Clause) that was instantiated and adapted in the case of mx4j and CAOSSL-1.0 here.

We will integrate this license in the {metæffekt} universe, perhaps we gain more insights while modeling the license.

pombredanne commented 1 month ago

@karsten-klein this is matched to Apache-1.1 in latest ScanCode, not mx4j

jlovejoy commented 3 weeks ago

@karsten-klein and @pombredanne - a few more bits of info on this! Entessa is pretty much a match to Apache-1.1 but added as its own license primarily b/c OSI approved Entessa on its own. I thought we had a note about this, but apparently not, so I've added one: https://github.com/spdx/license-list-XML/pull/2580

As to clause 5, Apache-1.1 has markup allowing either: "Products derived from this software may not be called [NAME] nor may [NAME] appear in their name, without prior written permission of [NAME]." or "Products may not include [NAME] in their name, without prior written permission of [NAME]."

The license in question here uses the second alternative, and thus would be a match to Apache-1.1

@jopejoe1 - see above, I'm otherwise going to close this issue :)
