Hi Richard, thanks for filing this, taking a look,.
Sorry, the one I linked to seems to be slightly different to the sample in the Swagger Editor that errors:
openapi: 3.1.0
info:
title: Swagger Petstore - OpenAPI 3.1
description: |-
This is a sample Pet Store Server based on the OpenAPI 3.1 specification. You can find out more about
Swagger at [https://swagger.io](https://swagger.io). In the third iteration of the pet store, we've switched to the design first approach!
You can now help us improve the API whether it's by making changes to the definition itself or to the code.
That way, with time, we can improve the API in general, and expose some of the new features in OAS3.

@disintegrator , Hi, wondering if you'll get this fixed before the end of the month or if you're on holiday? I was hoping to try to use the Pet Store schema to update the Fern vs Speakeasy article, because it's a comprehensive universal example.
I did some digging, and this seems to be caused by operations that don't return any success responses.
The operation-success-response
validation failure in Speakeasy could possibly be upgraded from a warning to an error, which would make this problem clear to users - even though the specification only says that we SHOULD include at least one success code.
Regardless of this generator error, the responses in the Swagger Petstore document don't match Swagger's Petstore server responses, and not returning any success responses doesn't make sense anyway.
The changes from the PR below resolves this for Typescript generation with Speakeasy.
Hi @RichardJECooke / @nielthiart, sorry for the late reply to this issue 🙏
I did some digging and found the bug which is consistent with @nielthiart's description. Our typescript generator implicitly expected at least a success response to be defined or it would fall over. While this should indeed be a hard validation error, I think we can be more tolerant in this case and generate working code. I'm going to push a fix for this and report back today. Really appreciate your patience!
To elaborate further...
The fix will result in an SDK method that always throws a generic error:
const response = await this.fetch$({ /* omitted for brevity */ }, options);
// 👇
const responseBody = await response.text();
throw new errors.SDKError("Unexpected API response", response, responseBody);
We will still look into updating our validator to raise an error until the spec is fixed but that can be a separate piece of work. For now, we want to make sure that if we generate code, it's syntactically valid and compiles.
Hi again @RichardJECooke, would you mind updating the CLI to v1.129.1 (or later) and trying the spec you posted again?
Thanks @disintegrator , the pet schema from the editor now generates correctly. I think that's all I need.
The linked schema from GitHub now throws an error instead of hanging. It says the petdetails schema is missing when it appears to be on line 365. It's weird that Swagger validates the schema but Speakeasy says it's invalid.
@RichardJECooke the original schema used $id
which I’m not sure we support. I’ll have to check with the team when we’re all back from holiday.
The example schema from the Swagger Editor validates without error in Speakeasy, but fails both in the CLI and the web/github:
