If you click on the attachment, it will open the original file directly in the browser. If it's an image or something the browser can display itself, it will and you can right-click save as. Otherwise it will just download it immediately. That doesn't help with the multiple downloads or metadata thing, though.
Mich and geneva have requested being able to download multiple attachments at one time
@tlammer suggestions on how this should be implemented?
Some options:
Download
button to each attachment to make downloading multiple as simple as clicking on the button next to each attachment (simple)Download all
button which creates an archive of all attachments (complicated)ideally, we would have both options. Then users could just download the one file they need or if they're doing a project, they could download a bunch of files at one time.
You cannot download attachments in 7
Fixed in 7.8.7
Repurposing this issue to cover the bulk download use case only
Heather Cole (AAFC/AAC) requests that ability to download all associated attachments from a query
She wants to send attachments when a loan is sent.
It would be useful to be able to view and download Attachments from query results and record sets. Currently, Specify 7 supports viewing attachments as thumbnails within record sets.
If you open a record set in S7, you can view all attachments associated with the records in the set from the attachments icon in the top bar, just left of the Specify Network icon. From there, you can open individual attachments in another popup window.
Ideally, an option could be added to download all attachments.
Downloading and sharing attachments can be a useful way to respond to information requests. Clicking through to each individual attachment to download them is tedious, especially for larger requests.
Thanks for considering this potential improvement!

This issue has been mentioned on Specify Community Forum. There might be relevant details there:
Presumably, downloaded attachments would be in an archive? Maybe this feature could be implemented as an improvement on the query export feature where the query export would become an archive with query results (.csv) and associated attachments
Though, a much simpler solution as suggested in https://github.com/specify/specify7/issues/609#issuecomment-1244148526 is to add a small download icon for each attachment, making downloading several much quicker

You cannot download individual attachments in 7, but not several at once. Users (Queensland) have also requested being able to download multiple attachments at one time along with metadata.
