I have experimented with some button variants, but I can't find one satisfying
solution for this. Either the placement is not good, or the overlook look is not good.
I'll move this from our 0.8 milestone (i.e. stuff for "the future")

How about sliding/hiding "pane" for the keypad? Use a tiny arrow that is a button to
toggle hide status, and the arrow changes direction based on the status. For
example, when the arrow is pointing up, a user can click the up arrow and the keypad
will be displayed, and then the arrow will change to a Down arrow. If the user
clicks the Down arrow, the keypad will hide, and the arrow will again reverse
direction.

Removing this from the 0.10 release plan. Since I've added the shortcut CTRL+K to
show/hide the key pad, I'm not sure about the usefulness of such a mechanism. If a
user doesn't like to use the key pad, she closes it through the menu and never opens
it again. If the user does like the key pad, she'll never hide it and doesn't need
to
show it since it's there by default. So a simple shortcut is more than enough IMO.

BTW, I tried a solution like the one described by goodtimetribe, but I didn't really
like it. I think at most and if really necessary (which I don't think it is at all
in
the trunk configuration), we could add a toggle button with a keyboard icon to the
left of the expression clearing button.
