Super simple form, fit, fyctuion #30

I’m sure this is a rock dumb question but does it matter functionally that I installed the Arduino

It depends what you mean by "functionally." The Arduino is involved in most aspects of the detector, including converting the analog signal from the sensor to a digital number, determining if the inputted signal is a count, counting, driving the display, writing to the SD card, talking to the computer, driving the count LED, handling the master / slave connections, powering the detector and so on.

However if you have an oscilloscope or are wanting to use the detector as a trigger for something else by connecting to the large, round BNC connector on the back or one of the test points and do not need the above features, you could probably get away without the Arduino by supplying 4.5-5v between the 5v pin and Ground pin where the Arduino would normally go.
