Electrum not recognizing Trezor (Windows) #3582

I am having trouble getting Electrum to recognize my Trezor during setup. Windows recognizes the Trezor just fine, but Electrum says "Hardware Keystone...No hardware device detected." I am using Windows 10 and Electrum 3.0.3.

I've followed the wizard's instructions to remove, unplug, and reinsert the device. I've tried both USB ports. I've rebooted the computer multiple times. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Electrum multiple times, including one attempt where I deleted /AppData/Roaming/Electrum. I've tried opening Electrum setup using "Run as Administrator." I've run the "Troubleshoot" option for the Trezor in "Devices and Printers." The Windows wizard thought the device might be too old to work smoothly with USB 3.0, but then stated that the problem was fixed. I've tried Electrum 2.9.3, 3.8.3, and 2.7.18 as well. None of these solutions have had any impact on the Electrum wizard's behavior (except that the 2.8.3 wizard crashes when it tries to find the Trezor).

I'd prefer not to install the Trezor browser extension, as avoiding the issues associated with browser extensions is a large part of the reason I opted to use Electrum. I have not tried connecting to a different Trezor or through a different wire, since Windows consistently successfully recognizes the device and even identifies it as a Trezor.

I found an interesting warning in Event Viewer -> Error Logs -> System that might provide a clue: The application [Electrum .exe path] with Process ID [XXXX] stopped the removal or ejection for the device USB[One of my Trezor hardware ID's][string of 14 gibberish characters].

Are you sure it says "Hardware Keystone"? That would be a very odd message.

Have you tried updating your Trezor firmware? I'm afraid you need the browser plugin to do that though.
