Fix Python3 compat #19

This patch fixes 2 issues in Python 3:

reduce() isn't available in the root namespace, but is available in the functools module (this is compatible with Python 2.6 / 2.7 as well).
basestring is removed from Python 3, we must use str instead.

Thanks for the patch, @thomasgoirand. There were a couple of older ones open so we've gone ahead and merged one of these. This should be available in a released version soon enough though!
