Surface coloring is confusing for vectorfields with non-normalized vectors: even though a vector is near zero and the arrow is not visible, the surface beneath it may exhibit a color.
Maybe using saturation (in [0,1]) given by the vector norm would be an option. However, using this on arrows may not be a great idea...
