DBZ - Legacy of Goku II freezes when saving #19

Having an issue with Dragonball Z - Legacy of Goku II. Saving on the save pads in-game results in the game freezing. The first one actually worked fine but every subsequent time locks the game up. Tested with multiple roms. Save states work fine.

I've had a similar but opposite issue. The save points work fine but when I make a save state or put the pocket into sleep mode and wake up, the audio cuts out but game still plays. When I go to a save point after that the game freezes.
