Before this is not solved nobody will actually use snippley?!

Agreed, Export/Import options would be highly useful especially for backing up
snippets.

I would definetly like to see a way to back up all the code or snippley itself.
It
would also be neat if snippley could used as a portable application. So I can
take
my code library to any computer.

one more vote that import/export is vital to make the application usable

A few minutes ago I installed for the second time Snippely, I'm not going to
use it
because I don't wanna end up with a lot of snippets lost.
Backup of the snippets it's very important to me.

How do instal the import/export update? I copied the files into the resources
folder but now on start up I get an
inspector window saying there was an error. The app is still functional but
I've lost all my data. After reinstalling
the previous version I got my data back but I'm moving to another computer and
would like to take my snippits
with me.

You need to take the source code and 'compile' it into an AIR application.
Apatana
will do it for you with just a few clicks.

this works great! thanks!

lucky enough I'm already using Aptana and even though I have never created an
AIR application I was able to
compile it - needed a certification obviously and once I made-up something (my
own credentials) I was able
to create a valid .air file (before that it would only result in an .airi
file). easy if you know what you're doing,
taunting to the AIR newbees :-)

I am using it now within dropbox and finally have all code in one single place
across my computers.

Thanks for this great tool !!

I just changed from pc to os x and now there seems no way to get my old
snippets.

This should be bumped. Specially for folks who develop on multiple systems it
would
be ideal to to have a single library that can be sync'ed across multiple
machines

Can anyone please upload the compiled version of the file above? I'd really
appreciate it.

I really need the import/export feature in this AIR app so I can keep my work
and
home computer up to date with the same code. Please!!!

I keep getting an error in Aptana when trying to compile the source which has
the
Import/Export feature. If anyone else has compiled it successfully, please
upload it
here so others can download it.

Without import/export or a cloud based repository for snippets this app is
doomed.

I keep getting an import failure when trying to import the exported file. This
app is
doomed if there is no working import/export feature.

I loved this program until I found out that now that I'm reformatting I can't
export.

I'm also getting the error upon import. However, you can manually move the
exported
file and your snippets and groups will show up.

So, is there a small bug in the import script that is causing it to fail?
Anyone have
time to proofread and correct it? (I'm not familiar enough with that code to
even
notice the error.)

@mStudios how did you use Dropbox, I mean, how did you change the db file
location?

Original comment by neozilus on 19 Oct 2009 at 7:00

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
You can also copy over the snippely database manually - on Mac it's found under
Library/Preferences/com.snippely.##gobbledygook##/Local Store/application.db

You can set up a symlink to the apps preferred preferences folder, but have the
target in your dropbox folder for syncing. You can see a similar set up at the
end of
this thread:

http://getsatisfaction.com/deliciousmonster/topics/database_design_location_hind
ers_sync_possibilities

I'm syncing all my app preferences this way. It's a way to sync any app,
whether they
are designed that way or not.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
OK, I set this up for myself using Mac Terminal, now I can sync with other
machines:

ln -s ~/Dropbox/snippely
~/Library/Preferences/com.snippely.##gobbledygook##/Local\ Store

You will of course have to tweak this for your version of ##gobbledygook## and
your
Dropbox location.

Import -
Can the contents of the imported file be 'added' to the existing
'application.db'
(creating a backup on its way) instead of replacing it altogether??

Export -
- Option for exporting to other file formats, like csv, txt etc. (instead of
just
dumping 'application.db' to selected folder. The export feature works only as
'backup' currently.
- Option to export complete database or selected groups/snippets
