Well, as it turns out, there are other WordPress themes named "Simplicity" (duh, search Google first, Dan). So let's toss some suggestions around.

cdharrison commented 14 years ago

Maybe "Simplicated"?

cdharrison commented 14 years ago

I like UD's definition of "simplicated" http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=simplicated - Something that is simple and complicated at the same time.

cdharrison commented 14 years ago

(Sorry to comment so much. I just happen to be awake before 8a on a Saturday.) Themes exists using "smpl", "Simplification". There is a theme company that goes by Simple themes. Simplicated.com exists as does simplicate.com. Perhaps further looking/discussion is needed.

danrubin commented 14 years ago

Ha, no worries — I'm in the UK, so it's afternoon already here ;)

Perhaps it's a good chance to look at the URLs Grant registered and see if we can just create a naming pattern based on one of them? Something that's unique, and can be used consistently across multiple themes (for different CMSs).

cdharrison commented 14 years ago

I like that idea and was leaning towards that as well.

splorp commented 14 years ago

I’ve registered the cleanthem.es and cleanlin.es domains (at an bargain price of $8USD through Gandi I might add.) The cleanthemes.com and cleanlines.com domains are both squatted right now, otherwise I would pick those up just in case the Spanish officials get all sticky about a bunch of North Americans snarfing their domains.

What if we worked on a convention that used “cleantheme” or “cleanline” as a prefix? You could build out a series of components such as:

Cleantheme Wordpress Cleantheme Tumblr Cleantheme EE … &c.

cdharrison commented 14 years ago

I'm down. As far as I can tell there isn't a theme called Cleanlines for WordPress. It'd work for Tumblr and EE as well.

There is a CleanLines theme for Magento - http://www.magthemes.com/premium-themes/cleanlines-magento-theme.html

I had a brilliant idea today (if I do say so myself) — the "Tabula Rasa" family of themes.

I'm a fan of Latin names, and it's quite fitting for this type of project, I think. Doing some URL searches now, as well as due diligence on existing themes just in case.

cdharrison commented 14 years ago

Heh. As am I. One of my themes is called Effercio (stuff). Another was called Magister, as it was going to be geared towards teachers...

cdharrison commented 14 years ago

(I took 3 years of Latin in high school.)

danrubin commented 14 years ago

(geek).

(also: awesome).

cdharrison commented 14 years ago

Some Ideas:

danrubin commented 14 years ago

nice list :) I'm picturing one theme name, with alternates for each CMS/system, e.g.

and so on.

splorp commented 14 years ago

No surprise, I’m a big fan of Latin as well.

<cough>nerd</cough>

‘Tabula Rasa’ really is a perfect fit … although I have to say that there’s a certain attraction to the tidiness (read: uncruftiness) of ‘Tersus’. Splitting out the specific CMS alternates, as in the above example,is exactly what I had envisioned.

cdharrison commented 14 years ago

I like them both. I think they both fit rather well. Whatever's decided I'll be happy with.

cdharrison commented 14 years ago

Should we flip a coin to dcide. Having slept on it, I'm leaning toward Tersus - simply because it's a bit shorter.

splorp commented 14 years ago

I’m officially tossing my coin into the “Tersus” bucket.

cdharrison commented 14 years ago

Dan, Any additional thoughts on the name?

nicemodernist commented 14 years ago

I could easily stand behind tersus. Is there consensus in Dan?

While we're on the topic of Latin, lacunae is the word that comes to mind. Apologies for my absence — I should be more readily available, going forth.

Cheers,

splorp commented 14 years ago

Lacunae is nice.

On the positive side: ‘gap’ ‘opening’

And, perhaps, the negative: ‘void’ ‘cavity’ ‘defect’

I’m still liking Tersus — for the short ‘n’ sweet of it.

danrubin commented 14 years ago

I'm down with Tersus — let's go with it.

Sorry I was out of touch for a few days. Had to travel home, deal with a missed flight, recover from said flight, etc. :)

nicemodernist commented 14 years ago

Ah, in lacunae I was relaying my own absence. It sounds like Tersus is it.

splorp commented 14 years ago

No worries, Dan … such is the life of a man of international mystery.

Accio Tersus!
