Book

Snapshots from a Pixar book I have. I dig the asymmetries and overlapping shapes.

Everyday Shooter

Game

Admittedly, I think this game feels better than it looks (sound-based game), but I still like it's geometric and approach style. You play as a simple shape, which lets the rest of the world have lots of color and detail.

A bit more visual inspiration...

Axiom Verge

Crazy space alien platformer, pixel art style with interesting pastel color palette.

Dead Cells

Dark Souls-like metroidvania platformer. You are some reanimated corpse/zombie. Also has a cool pixel art style, neon colors and some lighting effects.

Moonlighter

Interesting take on the dungeon crawler rogue-like where you play as a shop owner that moonlights as an explorer. Sell what you find to earn money for better gear for more exploring!

Also has a cool pixel art style (I'm seeing a theme here...). The dungeons are a bit more diverse than the screenshots here, the game is still in beta but there are some screenshots on the games kickstarter. The top down perspective could be useful inspiration for our levels... Also, the character has a rolling ability which allows him to leap over holes in the ground. Possibly a useful mechanic for use too (assuming we implement dash again...)?

Alright, alright, enough with the pixel art...

A few more visual/style things...

Black & White Bushido

Cool pvp multiplayer sidescroller that focuses on high contrast imagery. Black players are hidden in the shadows, and White players are hidden in the light.

And here is a similar style from an episode of Samurai Jack.

Flat Kingdom

I don't know anything about this game, it just looks cool. And it isn't pixel art. A bit more of a vector approach to the style, nice depth and parallax from flat images.

Ori and the Blind Forest

Same as above, I know nothing about this game, but it looks sweet. Not pixel art again, kind of a hand-painted style that leans very heavily on lighting and visual fx. Might be really dark too, based on the trailer.

N++

I love this game. Clean, simple visual style. Great UX, we should probably try and steal some of the UI elements from this game, if possible.
