API access to the "Discovered On" playlists for an artist #467

Open Drew3D opened 7 years ago

Drew3D commented 7 years ago

The About page for an Artist in the Spotify desktop application contains a short list of playlists called "Discovered On" which (apparently) contain the top 5 playlists that the artist was discovered on by listeners.

It would be useful if an API endpoint existed to access these 5 playlists (or more, if available).

The API endpoint would take as input a Spotify Artist ID and return as output a paged list of Spotify Playlist ID.

Use Case 1

A third-party app could access a user's followed artists, aggregate and sort the "Discovered On" playlists for those artists, and display the top resulting playlists that the user might like to follow.

Use Case 2

A third-party app could collect a set of artists from a specific playlist, aggregate and sort the "Discovered On" playlists, and display the top resulting playlists that are used to discover artists on the specified playlist.

Thanks for the feature request @Drew3D, we'll consider it!

Great idea

lrholmes commented 7 years ago

@hughrawlinson can we extend this request to include the other artist data like 'Where people listen' & the listener count? Would open some cool possibilities for sure!

drsounds commented 6 years ago

Unfortunately Spotify removed this featured, so it seems unlikely Spotify are providing an API for this. It is a bad decision though

hughrawlinson commented 6 years ago

@lrholmes I'd recommend opening a new feature request for that.

@drsounds this feature is still in the Desktop client as far as I can tell :)

heylookalive commented 6 years ago

@hughrawlinson Hi, is there an update on this?

drsounds commented 6 years ago

I am worried they don't to open up this feature because of business reasons.

heylookalive commented 6 years ago

I think you're right, it'd be completely reasonable that Spotify don't allow for this but would be good to get a definitive answer :)

hughrawlinson commented 6 years ago

Hi! There's no update - we keep feature requests open in order to ascertain the demand for a certain feature, and to understand what kind of use cases that the community has for it. The fact that a feature request is open isn't an indication that we've decided either way on whether or not to implement that feature, or how to prioritise it. I'll update this thread if/when we have an update 😄
