Return track play count from Get a Track Request #70

Open adibbz opened 9 years ago

adibbz commented 9 years ago

Any way to return track count from a get a track request?

Could it be added or is there a reason it is not?

Thanks!

+1 would be really important for me

+1 Also for an artist's top tracks

jdejoode commented 8 years ago

Is this not being implemented because of this clause in the ToS?

Do not artificially increase play counts, follow counts or otherwise manipulate the Spotify Service (i) by using a script or automated process, (ii) by providing any form of compensation (financial or otherwise) to users, or (iii) by any other means.

ben-tanen commented 8 years ago

@FFCGKristianA This is already implemented, see here: https://developer.spotify.com/web-api/get-artists-top-tracks/

FFCGKristianA commented 8 years ago

@jdejoode Probably not. This feature doesn't increase play counts.

@ben-tanen There's no field for number of times played on the top tracks..

@thelinmichael +1000000 - this would be incredibly useful to artists and indie labels whose music is distributed to Spotify, but cannot access it because the service is not yet available in their country.

If that was the case they could have the stats lag behind a week or so. Give us old data, something... ANYTHING! lol

+1 PLEEEEEEASE! Is there any update? This is taking a while, and even more frustrating when your entire ad campaign at the moment is based off of playcounts!

thelinmichael commented 7 years ago

Any relevant updates will be given in this issue ticket. @nickdulac, I strongly advise that you don't build any experiences that depend on this data being available through the API. That goes for other feature requests as well - there are simply no guarantees that they'll be implemented. And if they will, it may not be in a time frame that's relevant to what you're building.

At this point in time, we'll rather underpromise and overdeliver on a feature request, than to have third-party developers build great integrations that either can't be completed or that are severely delayed. We're trying to be as transparent as possible, and we're asking for your patience and understanding in why it's sometimes difficult to elaborate on feature requests in a public forum such as this one.

I want to reiterate that we're really proud that you choose to build your applications on top of our platform, and that we're thankful of the feedback that you're giving us through forums such as this one.

nickdulac commented 7 years ago

@thelinmichael thank you for the reply. to clarify, this is for internal use. every other service i can automate this process, but for Spotify I must manually enter playcounts. for artists and the independent music industry and community that rely on these analytics, it would be great to see these kind of things prioritized.

karakanb commented 7 years ago

+1 as an independent artist and dev. Changing distributing services with great differences in numbers, this would also be useful to view the statistics right from the source, maybe building a double checking platform for indie musicians.

mxfs commented 7 years ago

This might be more useful than the number of followers IMO, please add this.

Andrew1431 commented 7 years ago

+1 PLEASEEEEEE! WHY DONT YOU HAVE THIS!! IT's FIRST GRADE SPONGEBOB!

mmathys commented 7 years ago

+1 @DanielSwensson exactly. I'm pretty sure it's considered proprietary since analytics of this are worth a lot

At what point in a stream would it be flagged as listened? For example, if I listen to a track for 5 seconds and change to something else, is it flagged that I listened to that track?

DonPage commented 7 years ago

+1. I understand why this is not a thing but (spitballing) maybe rate limit the amount of request per week? Have the API only refresh listens once per month? I would like this feature to help people maintain "Under 20k Listens" playlist. 😄

songsponge commented 7 years ago

+1. I mean there are 3rd party services providing that info. But watcha gonna do...
