Corpus checks and SALDO #8

Hi, Some questions about SALDO senses that I didn’t’ find anything about in the guidelines.

a) Are the primary and secondary senses (and children) the only way to tell which sense I’m dealing with of a particular verb? Most of the time it’s enough, but occasionally you get a word with several sense where one of them only has one or two (sometimes self-referential) references/children that are rather vague. For example, I've been trying to figure out what ha..3 is used for. It has a single sense, "brås" as explanation, of which ha..3 is also a child. But since all the other uses of ha seem to be lumped in with ha..1, I don't see what's so special about this one or why it has a sense of its own. This in turn makes the checks more confusing.

b) Auxiliary verbs in general are really sparse on definitions. While missing temporal senses for verbs like har and komma seem to necessitate a “sense missing” entry, what about cases like få which has only two senses (as a verb) compared to eg. five in SO? When I have a sentence like “vi får prata om det senare” and my only choices are få..1, opposite of ge, and få..3, permit, I’d rather note it as sense missing. Can I use something like SO to determine when the senses are different enough to warrant a “sense missing” note?

c) Participles. Since they are verbs (or so I presume), they refer to the SALDO-sense of the verb even when there exists an adjectival form; eg. frånskild (divorced) has the sense frånskilja..1 even though frånskild..1 exists. Somtimes the verbs and participles have slightly different meanings, however; frånskilja isn’t really used to refer to divorces, only frånskild, so would it be more appropriate to use frånskild?

Sorry about the late response Daniela. a) Yes primary and secondary descriptors and the sense itself are the only things you have to go on, and possibly children as you say. It does seem quite difficult to figure out what "ha.3" is exactly. Simply add questions next to cases such as these. I hope there won't be too many.

b) Yes please note sense missing and use SO as help to determine.

c) Yes frånskild would be more appropriate, so please check SALDO and note that the sense should be changed.

Thanks Daniela @dpiippon
