It appears that you have not properly setup your mail method configuration.
@jdutil Could i bypass this mail method configuration if so? i have done it through the admin section and i am still getting this error. if not then where do i find the configuration settings? Thank you
Under configuration there is a mail settings link in the right hand column.
If you are still receiving errors after successfully setting up and receiving test emails then you will have to fill out a detailed bug report with THE EXACT steps to reproduce the error. The information you are providing is not sufficient to reproduce this error, but it pretty clearly appears to be that your smtp settings are not correct as that is what the backtrace is dying in.
@jdutil Is there a way to not configure the email settings, when using spree? If this can't be done, What is the preferred mail provider to use with spree? Thank you
You must configure email or your going to have all kinds of issues like this, no order confirmations, shipping confirmations etc...
You can use whatever email service you would like. I usually use mandrill or sendgrid.
