I think fixes issues #21, #22 and #25 includes the patch for #26

My javascript / coffeescript skills are non-existent so would like for a JS programmer to review

I've merged to master, but the git history was pretty sloppy so hopefully I didn't mess up resolving the conflicts. Theres no specs... Please give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

Thanks Jeff, seems to be all fine... sorry about the git history I suspect it's my fault as I forked from a fork and did the pull request here.

I agree there's tech debt with lack of specs and need some code refactoring.
