Improve the guide for building maven projects - email issue #49

The guide Building Java Projects with Maven has a few places which would trip up a beginner programmer. I'd like to edit this to hopefully improve it. But, when I went to the contribution agreement I saw a warning that my email would be accessible to Pivotal, is that correct ? I don't want to provide an email that is accessible and readable to Pivotal - but I'd still like to contribute

Your email isn't being harvest by the CLA tool for the marketing team's benefit. We need a verifiable way to register you as having signed our CLA before accepting contributions. It's a pretty common mechanism in the industry.
