There's no dropdown to change the CCParticleSystemPositionType property. This means one currently can't design particle emitters that do not follow the parent node without intervening through code.
Specifically the free mode is important to create exhaust smoke or engine fire particles which, once spawned, should not move relative to its parent (the vehicle).
