Solution was to use telnet, since the squeak network io is async and runs fine
Tell us more! Perhaps post on squeak-dev to explain, not least because we could do with a bit of excitement from someone outside the usual suspects...

Building a shell based squeak interface that seems to be not possible at the moment because the file io blocks the VM.
(Or am I missing something?)
