Squirrel fails to run on Mac Ventura (M2) - says need different jvm #19

I am trying to run Squirrel (latest version) on M2 Macbook. I am getting message saying "Java Virtual Machine version must be >11. Message says my version is 1.8.0_381. I updated java and javac says I am running 19.0.2 (at least of the compiler). How to update the jvm to a workable version?
