If we have reusable components, it will be much easier to add new functionality in the future.
Some keys to doing this properly, as my thinking currently stands, are as follows:
Start with the small pieces and work up - this will make it easier to see where code can be reused
Do it with directives - this will help prepare for Angular 2.0
Use the controllerAs and bindToController:true syntax
Switch to Angular 1.4 as soon as possible to take advantage of the new bindToController syntax
Bind everything to this in the controller - maybe to vm as suggested by John Papa, though I feel using the var vm = this pattern may make it difficult going forward with TypeScript, and some of the benefits are no longer necessary with es6. However, continue to evaluate this. We want to avoid issues of a this that is not bound to the correct object, so using that pattern may still be correct.
