Empty 'children' array results in one 'null' child node #52

When specifying a node, and giving [] as the 'children' property, the node
is shown with one child: 'null'. Giving null as the 'children' property
fixes the problem, but requires additional code (in my case) to check
whether to send null if an array is empty, otherwise the array.
