Hey, this howto made it to a Mentor Graphics SIEP (Society Of Innovative Electrical Professionals) Jira bug. If somebody has access to https://mentorgraphics.atlassian.net/browse/SIEP-1658 , then I'd be interested in what's in there. The PixArt mouse disconnect is definitely a good example for a common HW design flaw.

I've sent a message to PixArt technical support if the latest generation of cheap sensors is still affected by the disconnect issue.

Reaction by PixArt Imaging is: I should talk to the mouse manufacturers and they should talk to them. This is bureaucracy here. The response from the mouse manufacturers usually is "Linux is not a supported OS". They also do nothing else than to design the casing, to set their USB IDs, and to put their name on it. Even the PCB is coming from somebody else and the disconnection HW bug is in the PixArt chip in the end as it contains the USB and micro-controller components. So it seems Linux users will have "fun" with their USB mice for long time in future as well.

Update regarding PixArt Imaging: Involving the FSFE seems to be the way to go here. They refer to the need of convincing ODMs (original design manufacturers). So it seems they integrate an IP core with proprietary firmware from another company. So it is not in their hands to change the USB controller part. :disappointed:

Brought to linux-input mailing list: Topic: PixArt Imaging USB mouse ICs - Linux users cursed forever? https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-input/msg59987.html

Now it is known that faulty Logitech FW is contained in PixArt ICs. Nobody responded to this issue. So it does not make any sense to keep it open. Closing now.

Made it to Sony Jira: http://tool.sony.biz/common-jira/browse/COREPF-12406 Would love to know what's inside.
