Show "popular books" #57

There are enough books in the system now that it might be nice to show a
list of "popular" (however that's defined) authors and titles.

On the other hand I want to maintain users' privacy even if we would only
be showing book titles and not ownership. Perhaps an opt-in "allow my
library to be added to general statistics"? But who would bother?

I would bother :)

I'd also argue for an opt-out, not an opt-in, at least on basic stats (wasn't
that
the lesson in Flickr -- make sharing the default). I'd always want readers to
keep
their entire library (or any number of titles within it) private, but
BookGlutton,
LibraryThing, GoodReads, etc. suggest there's not much discomfort with sharing
reading habits.

My general feeling about changing defaults has been that I'm fine with making
most
stats opt-out for new users, but I'm less happy about suddenly making things
that
were once private more public.

(I would be okay with simply notifying people that the default has changed when
they
log in, at which point the public setting takes hold _and_ they have the option
to
opt-out.)
