Note that currently this record: http://wwwb.library.vanderbilt.edu/bibl/648/tei reflects the change we propose to make. It is the only record with this feature. This issue would update all records to match.
@nathangibson, I know this is relevant to NHSL. You might also want to weigh in @jedwardwalters. We also discussed changing <editor role="general-editor"
to <editor role="general"
.
It looks like I've conflated two issues: #752
Hi all, this seems fine to me.
In the TEI guidelines the element TEI:editor is much broader in meaning that an editor in the sense used by the Chicago Manual of style. TEI:
<editor> contains a secondary statement of responsibility for a bibliographic item, for example the name of an individual, institution or organization, (or of several such) acting as editor, compiler, translator, etc. [3.11.2.2 Titles, Authors, and Editors]
http://www.tei-c.org/release/doc/tei-p5-doc/en/html/ref-editor.htmlThis raises a problem of how to refer to editors in the more specific sense of compiler of a text, such as in the case of a text and translation which has a separate editor and translator (see http://wwwb.library.vanderbilt.edu/bibl/648/tei)
Currently, we require that TEI:editor have @role for translator but when we use TEI:editor to refer to just an editor, we put no role. For parallelism and to help @wsalesky with formatting the Chicago style citations, we propose changing all the data to have TEI:editor @role="editor" to mean an editor in the tradition sense.
@nathangibson @jedwardwalters What are your thoughts?
