PIN 37 in your picture hast to be connected with GND #7

PIN 37 is R/W you can't write when the PIN is HIGH. See the application 
examples which came with the display.

You are absolutely right!
Sorry about that mistake! 
I only made stripboard layouts for the displays, and drew the schematics  after 
building the hardware. 

Fixed now!
