Calories Summary #126

Not sure why its not working for you. I haven't had any issues. I'll check the patch. Regarding the font size/location, I tried to mimic what was already implmented in hte daily so as to not clutter. Attached is a screen shot of what I'm seeing in 1024x768 . I wouldn't expect to many people to use screen resolutions < 1280x1024. Either way, except for the seconds place in the Total Row, All the data seems visible. The seconds could be fixed by Abreviating Total to Tot: or simply T: in keeping with the style of first letter indicates the meaning.

Maybe an acceptable alternative is to make the default option to not display the Summary data. That would allow users with higher resolutions who care, select it and those who have lower resolutions and don't want it leave it off without worring about it cluttering their screen. I'm not against the tool tip idea but personally I like to see what my recent progression has been and the calendar view makes this a convenient review and is easier than having to go into the statistical viewer. Also, the initial tool tip doesn't respond as fast as I'd like.

Though I like having the statistical viewer, I find it is slightly less convenient then just looking at the data in the Summary block. To compare Distance/time/Calories for the last 4 weeks, I have to go through lots of button clicks to get the same data.

If you send a screen shot of what you are seeing, that may help me understand more.

Just a note, I re-uploaded the patch. Before I uploaded it, I downloaded a clean source using mercurial and applied the patch. Compiled and worked first time with no issues.

Thanks for the screenshot, now I see what you mean. Who knows what the problem was for my last tests, maybe the build has not compiled all changes.

I still think that it's too much detail data shown in the summary cell. OK, we could add configuration options, but why should id be complicated? I'm completely agree, it's nice to have all the detailed summary data without entering and filling the Statistic dialog. If the user wants it quickly, he can see all in the tooltip. If the user want so compare many weeks and see the progress, then it's much easier to open the Overview diagram and show all weeks of the year. Or he can move the mouse from one summary cell to another, the tooltip text will change instantly, when it's allready displayed.

To the resoltion problem: most people I know are not using SportsTracker in fullscreen mode, me too. The window size is something like 800x600. And the summary doesn't fit there.

I hope you can understand my point of view...

Bye, Stefan

I can see the issue if your looking at it in 800x600 (or anything less than 1024x768.) (I'm a bit spoiled as I typically use my desktop.) How about a compromise. Adding a checkbox in Calendar View Preferences that says "Detailed Summary Data inTooltips Only" with the default setting for the check box being selected.(no summary data) And then implementing the data in the tooltips. That way its always available in the tooltips and only available in the summary when desired.

Let me know and I'll make it happen and upload a patch. If you still just prefer the tooltips only, let me know and I'll make that happen.

Hi Robert,

i prefer the "detailed summary in tooltip text only". The reasons for the decision are:

(1) text cropping and size problem when not in fullscreen mode, looks buggy (2) usability: I prefer less configuration (and so lees confusion) and the "its simply works" way instead of adding features not needed by most users. Such features need to stay invisible, as long the user does not need them. This is also one of the main principles in the Gnome User Interface guidelines. Many special "power-user" features have been removed from the Option dialogs there, they don't want to confuse the users.

Bye, Stefan

I think it would be great to have calories summaries in the calendar.
