Having the ability to update metadata sounds great, but without specific examples of how this would be used I feel that we are designing something that might not even be used and if used might have the wrong model. The only example of metadata that potentially could be mutated is the lifetime, and that is a good example of what would it mean if someone mutates it? Do you then have to get a feed again that you just deleted?
ssb-crut has a whole tangle-based model for how to reason about the state of a mutable record.
I'm in favor of leaving out update for now, but to tangle feeds added to a metafeed so that we in the future could extend this with updates.
