Set it to verify file exists before opening #20

I verified that this works on my server where it previously did not, and that these changes also continue to work on my other machine.

Actually.. while this _is_working on my server now.. it isn't reading back any CPU temps. I can set this PR to draft and keep playing around with it until I get something to work, unless you'd rather get that in a different PR. I think this is just the dreaded "HPE tax" at play, so maybe this is as good as it needs to be for now :relaxed:
