okay I dont know what fixed it but I will tell you what I just did
I installed barnacle wifi tether loaded it and it worked great I was able to
view all sites
I don't like new apps so I went and looked at barnacles DNS #'s
I changed them in wifi tether to 68.28.178.91, 68.28.186.91
So now my wifi tether works on all wibesites!

That didn't work for me because barnacle tether's DNS was empty.
However the process of starting and stopping Barnacle tether appears to change
the system in such a way that wifi tether works.
For what its worth, barnacle's adhoc network doesn't work with my laptop.

I have the same issue using a Motorola triumph on the Virgin Mobile network,
this worked fine in the past using a different app.

If it matters this issue can be replicated with ANY tether app I install.

I have the same issue on a moto defy xt555c by straight talk, rooted with
supersu, and running the stock gingerbread 2.3.7. Connection jumps to 170.0kbps
when searching on google, but anything other link gets like 0.2kbps - 5.0kbps.
Then it fails to connect. Tried entering openDNS address, and the barnacle
address in my wifi tether and still nothing! tried using cahced links and using
the translator to proxy the links, The barnacle app when activated re-boots my
phone >_>. What to do?
