Same issue, wi-fi is connecting to laptop but laptop is saying the connection
does not have a connection
to the internet. Same issue with original Sprint cupcake firmware and SW
version 1.56.651.2. Also
rooted.

My Sprint Hero(rooted) is doing the same, both my Hero and XP Sony and also mac
laptop show they are
connected but no internet connection transmitted to either laptops, it also
takes a while for laptops to connect,
please HELP!!!!

Same issue here on my Eris running 2.1 Eclair. No errors, good connection, but
web
pages won't pull up. Also, data xfer up/down is VERY small (just a few Kb each
way).

Try turning airplane mode on then off after Wifi Tether is started and your
laptop
is connected.

air plane mode did not resolve my issue on evo 4g rooted froyo 2.2 running
wireless tether 2 0 7-1 tether is tethering and laptop says excellent signal
but can not connect to internet

I have Evo 4g.. was having same problem (connect but no internet). Airplane
mode on/off no help but I saw a setting for "Routing fix" I checked that box
and smooth sailing. Thanks to all!

I think it has something to do with the firmware. It didn't work on my evo but
it worked on my friends phone

i have the 4g as well and a similar issue , change the setup to WEXT (ad-hoc)
and it worked
