On my Pandaboard ES, fbturbo plays 720p reasonably well on mplayer with multiple threads, but there is no video output in vlc. It's worth mentioning that omapfb performance is better but I suppose that's to be expected. I'm on Gentoo.

I guess, this is a request for implementing the omapfb hardware video overlay support. Right now video overlays are only supported for the Allwinner hardware (with sunxi-3.4 kernel). But we surely can cannibalize the relevant parts of xf86-video-omapfb if somebody does this work.
