Any plans to retry? #9

Unfortunately, yes. We have not any plans yet. Most of contributors have thought we're also going to fail if we'll try to have same plans.

Welcome and thank you for your concerns.

We need at least 100 commitments committed by users who has +200 rep. to pass the commitment step. Unfortunately it seems that there exist only 230 such users. ( http://data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/210728/200-users-who-seem-to-speak-korean)

That's why our last trial has been failed. IMO, I think it's better to wait until there are enough +200 users (maybe 500 users?)

Thanks.

Since we already have atleast 200+ people who want a Korean version of stackoverflow, why don't we build one ourselves? I'm willing to contribute what I can in PHP, MySQL, html, css, js, ...

aronze commented 9 years ago

@coffeeshopcoder Yes, we can make one, and actually there are already so many SO clone sites in Korean. But other sites don't ask to user why they're use that.(authentication, reliability,..) So, if we make new one, we have to ask why they are use it.

On the other hand, so many people supported SOK. Because they just want to use Stack Overflow in Korean.

coffeeshopcoder commented 9 years ago

@aronze I think the main issue is that existing SO clones are mostly just simple bulletin board systems and do not have an elaborate point based schema to ensure the quality of questions and answers. Also the SEO performance on such sites is close to null. One of the reasons SO is so successful is that their posts rank really high on search results. I think if we can do this right, it could be a really interesting project.

aronze commented 9 years ago

@coffeeshopcoder Half agree. First of all, I thought same thing. After I was suggest SOK, I can talk to so many people to want SOK. They just want to use SO in Korean. SO system is not all about.

For now, If we can make a exactly same site, I think users do not move to our sites. "Don't reinvent the wheel." SO is already there. Why am I use to new SO? Just I can to use in Korean?

I think if we'll make new SO, it is more over then SO. Of course, if then, it is no more remaining in Korean.

outsideris commented 9 years ago

I agree with @aronze . IMO, So's search results are very high because SO is so soccessful.

coffeeshopcoder commented 9 years ago

@aronze @outsideris OK, I get your point. I guess I'll have to think about things a bit more.

jinahya commented 9 years ago

Why the hell, buy the way, are you guys talkin' in English? What kind of thought like this, "Wow, these guys can live without SOK anyway." Sorry, I shouldn't use English in the first place.

I was shocked when I saw the result indicating only 230 people (not 230k people) related with Korean/Seoul.

jason-heo commented 9 years ago

@coffeeshopcoder We already had talked about this in Tweeter. If you're interesting this and can read in Korean, see following link: https://github.com/stackoverflow-in-korean/sok/wiki/Twit-History
