Update from OpenStreetMap data #42

How often does the toner style actually get re-rendered with updates from OpenStreetMap?

I see its not showing Kathmandu mapping from 7 months ago here for example: http://maps.stamen.com/#toner/17/27.75383/85.29317 vs http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/27.75419/85.29228

I'm confused because I see some lively cartography discussions here, which surely entails re-rendering the maps. Are you not pulling in OSM updates?

Unfortunately, no, we don't have an automated system for pulling in updates, and the manual process has fallen by the wayside since we've been too busy with other projects. (yes, I know 7 months is a long time!)

We're working on finding ongoing funding so we can keep our maps actively updated, but for now it's extremely sporadic.

However, we are working on a re-launch of Terrain soon, and Toner's database schema is very similar to Terrain's, so we expect that we will be able to update Toner's data at the same time we launch Terrain.
