Hey there! could you provide a screenshot by any chance? Are you using the themed menu bar or not? (View -> Use Themed Menu Bar) A screenshot for both options would be really nice actually 😅
Hello, I'm an elementary OS user, so I can provide the screenshots! @cedewey I can confirm the suggestion from @baptiste-grob it's working as expected. 👏👏 thanks!
View -> Use Themed Menu Bar checked
View -> Use Themed Menu Bar unchecked
@baptiste-grob nitpicking, but: there is an inconsistency between how the menu is shown between this app and other elementary OS apps. To show the menu you need to press Alt+M
, toggling the menu. In elementary almost all apps (at least that I tested) allow showing the menu by pressing, and keeping it pressed, the Alt
key. Once the key is released the menu disappears.
Do you think would be possible to have this behaviour?
@baptiste-grob @endorama , thank you both for pointing out that feature. That solves my issue exactly. Thanks so much! Feel free to close this issue and reopen a separate on for the alt+M toggle menu request.
I love using Standard Notes so I write this with much appreciation to everyone involved.
The one thing that affects its usability for me is that it breaks from the design patterns of Elementary, my operating system. Primarily, that the close action is on the right hand side and the app's main menu on the left hand side in Standard Notes, but the opposite in Elementary apps.
Now, I am not crazy about this design decision from the Elementary team, but at this point SN is the only app which I use that does not conform to this pattern. So it throws my muscle memory off every time I use it. :)
I'm not sure what is involved in packaging up an Elementary-compatible version. I would be willing to contribute a small amount of money as a token of my appreciation as well as promote the app further within the Elementary and Linux community in general.
I also think getting SN into the Elementary App Store would give it increased visibility and users. So, if the effort to get the app to be compatible with Elementary's design system also makes sense to also do the work to get it into the app center that could be a longer term benefit to the project.
Thank you for your consideration and again for building such an easy to use, privacy respecting app.
