This PR reflects the commit history (squashed) from thearossman/retina/dev which upgrade Retina from v0.1.0 to v1.0.0.

v1.0.0 introduces significant framework changes that allow users to specify multiple subscriptions, each with one or more datatypes. More detail is in the updated documentation and README.
