Thanks @hgs-sellis for pulling these changes together. I'm sorry this didn't get merged at the sprint, and that it has been languishing out here for all this time.

I did review all the changes in the PR and it looks like they've all been overcome by events and are no longer relevant to the repo. 🙁 As a result I'm going to close this PR out. I did make sure though that the equivalents to what you added are in place, because you did point out a number of things that should have been documented that we were previously missing.
