this would require setting up some custom block definitions but would widely expand the mods usage for me.

It's already supported on EveryCompat. This can be closed.

FYI, Building But Better has a built-in module to be supported by EveryCompat on FABRIC.

EveryCompat has the module for FORGE. the dev forgot to include the built-in module for FORGE.
